Poem for Parents
This lovely poem is from the Slimy Bookworm blog:
When I was a baby, time crawled
When I was a child, time walked
When I became an adult, time ran
When I became old, time flew
It reminds me of my favorite quote about parenting, “The Days are Long but the Years Are Short.” I don’t know who this quote is attributed to.
What is your favorite quote or poem about time and raising children?
p.s. A few other good ones I found:
“To be in your children’s memories tomorrow, you have to be in their lives today”
– Anonymous
“Kids spell love T-I-M-E.”
– John Crudele
“What a child doesn’t receive he can seldom later give.”
– P.D. James

Love this post! My favorite is how children spell “time”. As a parent, I feel the same way; “time” is the most precious gift given by anyone, at least to me.
Thanks for sharing these thoughts, especially during this time of the year when all time seems to fly!
To Carol,
Thank you so much for your kind comment! It IS such a crazy time of year, isn’t it? And the time does seem to fly by. I love these kind of poem reminders about raising a child in a loving way. I can really use the reminders!
Pragmatic mom,
Thanks for highlighting this poem and my blog.
I love the quote “The Days are Long but the Years Are Short.” I will ingrain it in my mind for play back on those difficult parenting days.
To Bola,
Thank you so much for your comment. I remember when a mom friend put that quote on her holiday card and it really stuck with me. Then I read it again in The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. It does really strike home, doesn’t it? The days do get shorter as the kids get older, I find, but the years seem to fly by faster and faster. It’s a kind of weird time warp!
I love this poem! And days are long years are short – really sums up life with kids <3 Thanks for sharing!!!
