Clementine is the New Ramona Quimby
Clementine series by Sara Pennypacker
My oldest received the first book, Clementine, from her book club. She liked it so much that we got the rest of this early chapter book series. I noticed it won a Massachusetts Book Award in 2007. Finally, the other day I found the books tucked away on a high bookshelf and read them and I can see why everyone loves them so much. I’d describe them as Junie B. Jones in third grade…she’s nicer to her little brother now. She still gets in trouble but her heart is as big as her imagination and she’s a lot of fun.
I gave the first book to my 7-year-0ld who is particular about her books: “Why can’t it be as good as A Cricket in Times Square? I want another chapter book as good as A Cricket in Times Square.” She is truly enjoying this book series and thinks Clementine is an excellent, funny book, perfect for 2nd graders. I think 2-4th graders will like them too. At our elementary school, the 5th graders try to read all the winners in the children’s category of the Massachusetts Book Award and I suspect they liked this chapter book as well!
