Top 10: Funny Picture Books to LOL with Your Child

Best Funny Picture Books for Kids to LOL!

My five-year-old son selected most of these books because they make him laugh and we enjoy reading them together.

Honorable Mention

Hot Rod Hamster by Cynthia Lord

This book arrived in the mail today and my five-year-old son insisted that I include it on the “funny book list on your blog.”  He made me read it 5 times today!  This is Cynthia Lord’s first picture book.  She also wrote the Newbery Winner chapter book Rules (which is outstanding).  This is a funny, rhyming book that appeals to hot rod racers!  It’s a very cute story about a hamster who is going to hot rod race and a dog helps him build his race car.  It’s really fun to read aloud!

10. Leonardo The Terrible Monsterby Mo Willems

My son thinks the part where the little boy explains why he was crying is sooo funny that he’s actually memorized it!  The story is about a cute little boy monster who can’t scare anyone so he finds the most scardy cat kid in the world to scare.

9. Everyone Poops by Taro Gomi

The Japanese don’t find bodily functions like farting or pooping embarassing or funny, so it takes a Japanese person to write a book about poop!  And, of course, it cracks up my son.  He loves potty humor!

8. Hippo? No Rhino by Jeff Newman

The zookeeper puts up the wrong sign next to the rhino and the rhino is not happy about it!

7. Hog-Eyeby Susan Meddaugh

A little girl pig outwits a wolf who wants to eat her and tells her story to her smart alecky family.

6.  The Incredible Book Eating Boyby Oliver Jeffers

A mom friend recommended this book because she and her 5-year-old son love it.  About a book eating boy who gets smarter with every book he eats.  Eventually, the book eating makes him sick so he reads the books instead.

5. Duck for President by Doreen Cronin

Duck from Giggle, Giggle, Quack and Click, Clack, Moo is back and this time he’s running for office.

4.  A Couple of Two Boys Have the Best Week Everby Marla Frazee

When two best friends go to Nature Camp together, they have the best week ever doing things their way.

3. Chicken Butt by Erica S. Perl

I don’t think it’s possible for a book named Chicket Butt NOT to be hysterically funny and this book does not disappoint.

2. Baloney (Henry P.)by Jon Sciezka

A little alien boy has a very good excuse to explain why he’s late for school.

1. Officer Buckle and Gloriaby Peggy Rathman

Tips on safety get a lot more exciting when Gloria the dog is helping out Officer Buckle!
