Best Wordless Picture Book Ever!
This wondrous book is a book without words but no words are necessary because Multi-Caldecott winning author, David Wiesner, tells the story in pictures. And what a story it is! If you take your children to the Jersey Shore or any shore for that matter, and your child is a dreamer or artist, then this is the book to spark imaginations!
A boy on the shore finds an underwater camera washed up. He develops the film and finds wondrous pictures taken: mechanical fish swimming with schools of fish, aliens living underwater, and starfish so enormous that islands form on the tops of their backs. Even more intriguing: pictures of kids who found the camera with a picture of the previous kids who found the camera. This boy is well prepared. He happens to have both a magnifying glass AND a microscope. Under close examination, he discovers in the pictures of pictures, a young boy from maybe the turn of the century?
He takes a picture of himself as his parents tell him it’s time to go home, of course, holding a picture of the previous kid who found the camera and flings the camera back into the ocean where… it finds itself back into another strange and marvelous land…and then onto a new kid.
This is the perfect, any-age-even-adult, gift if you are staying at someone’s beach house this summer. The picture book is so gorgeously illustrated that it’s a treat to read for any age and appeals to any age. And this belongs near a seashore where dreamers can dream of alien worlds. Or artists can copy these illustrations to learn how to draw as beautifully as this RISD graduate.
