I met Jacqui Taub on Twitter and she seems like a lovely person. I tried her series out on my kids and my 5-year-old really liked the quirky plots. He said, “I don’t like it, I LOVE IT!” when I asked him what he thought of the books.
If your child likes the Little Miss and Little Mr series, as in Mr. Messy, Mr. Tickle, Little Miss Sunshine, etc., then this series would be a good change of pace. They are similar but the Waussieplots are simpler and there is less text on a page. Another big differentiator from the Little Miss books is that the Waussie books come with a CD that has a catchy song as well as a reading of the book by Australian actors. I thought it was fun to hear an Australian accent. My son liked the catchy song, but books on “tape” are also a great way to teach preschoolers independence by having them play the CD and read along by themselves. The plot lines stress kindness, helping others, and problem solving. The pictures are appealing with bright colors and cartoon-like characters. This is a great book series for any child that I would describe as Little Miss/Mr series crossed with The Wiggles. This sweet spot for this series is preschoolers, ages 2-5.
The 6 book series consists of: Burger Waussie’s Lost Bun, Tennis Racquet Waussie’s Space Adventure, Beachball Waussie’s Lost Air Stopper, Pineapple Waussie’s Tickly Problem,Hiccup Waussie Loses His Hiccups, and Boomerang Waussie To the Rescue. Each book is $14.95.
