I think my most of my readers are familiar with Jeanette Nyberg …
We’ve done a holiday shopping guide together for the past few years …
She’s my daughter’s Art and Design School independent college counselor …
She blogs at Craftwhack (with previous blogs Artchoo! and Tiny Rotten Peanuts) …
She’s got impeccable taste for the coolest stuff on the planet …
She’s really funny and fun!
Now, not surprisingly, she’s the author of a BRAND NEW amazing and fun art book for kids and parents:
Tangle Art and Drawing Games for Kids: A Silly Book for Creative and Visual Thinking by Jeanette Nyberg
Tangle Art and Drawing Games for Kids is perfect for families who want to sneak a little more creativity into their lives and have fun doing it. It’s about exploring, experimenting, and getting lost in creativity. It’s not focused on goals, but on enjoying the process.
Professional artist Jeanette Nyberg brings to life 46 drawing games that offer playful, easy ways to get a pen moving across a page, help keep the mind focused, and provide hours of edifying entertainment. Move through the book at your own pace. Start with basic drawing games, followed by a section of activities that can be done with friends, then work with some mixed-media activities, and end with awesome tangle art games. Each activity includes ideas for how to “Make it Silly,” and ways to vary the themes so you can play the games over and over.
Families will make exciting discoveries, find creative ways to spend their time, master visual and manual skills, and most importantly, have fun!
Let’s learn more about this book from Jeanette herself …
1) You’ve created 46 fun, playful drawing games … ‘fess up. Which one is your favorite and don’t give me this “I love all my children equally” song and dance!
You know which one is my favorite? Purely because of the silliness factor, it’s the synchronized drawing game. Since you are trying to keep up with drawing at the same pace as the other person, things get really funny when the lead drawer moves quickly!
2) Tell me about the process of getting your first book published!
What a process! It took me 2 full months of terror-filled procrastination before I believed that I had gotten a book deal and I could start coming up with the projects. Then I got into sort of a groove with the brainstorming, testing projects, drawing them out. Emotionally it was hard at times, because I never think what I’m doing is good enough… and then I had a dramatic last 2 days where I holed myself up in a hotel to finish up. I’m so romantic that way.
3) Which is Fen’s favorite game and why?
Fen’s favorite game was game #5 Eggheads, because she jumped right in and drew all the faces immediately. We just went ahead and used her faces for the book because they were all so cute.
4) Which is Beckett’s favorite game and why?
Beckett’s favorite project- and this one surprised me- was #29, the Exquisite Corpse Book. He saw me making one, and immediately got to work on a couple of his own. I love how you never know what’s going to spark a kid’s creative imagination!
5) Which is Christian’s favorite game and why? Do you guys draw together? I’m picturing an arty date night …
Christian hated them all. JK! LOL! He was my guinea pig and sounding board for so many of the projects, and he’s a fantastic draw-er, so some of his drawings are in the book, too. His favorite was game #13, Totem Creatures, which is similar to an Exquisite Corpse game. We had a blast doing this one together, too. I love how fun these drawing games are for adults, too, because I love doing fun, no-pressure art projects, and I think a bunch of grownups will have as much fun as the kids.
