2. She didn’t know it yet.
3. It wouldn’t be long before she did.
4. That knowledge would change everything between us.
5. And there wasn’t a thing I could do about it. It’s the first day of seventh grade. Middle School Advice from author Megan McCafferty
NO ONE IS THINKING ABOUT YOUR NOSE ZIT AS MUCH AS YOU ARE.
Clear-skinned readers, CONGRATULATIONS! But if it isn’t a nose zit you’re worried about, it’s probably something else like a crooked tooth or shortness or tallness or hairy legs. The nose zit, you see, is a symbol for whatever weirdness in your appearance that is taking up way too much brainspace. And with so many strange physical changes happening all at once, it’s no wonder you wake up some mornings wondering what the heck happened to the body you had when you went to bed.
The good news is this: Hormones are happening to everyone, just not at the same time and in the same ways. I guarantee your classmates are too preoccupied with their own nose zits—real or symbolic–to give much thought to yours.

Good advice from Megan….every middle grade student needs to hear it.
Hi Barbara,
I still get acne so that’s great advice for anyone older than middle school too!
I just requested book #1 from the library–what a perfect middle school book since I too have a 7th graader! Looking forward to reading book 2!
Hi Maria,
I have a 7th grader too! I’ll see if she wants it! She’s supposed to read 40 books this school year and that is a lot for her!
Great advice! I was always stressed about friends in middle school. I wish I could say I was worried about algebra, but, alas, I wasn’t.
I didn’t even realize there was a MG prequel. Jessica Darling is one of my all-time favorite characters, and I can’t wait to get my hands on these.
Hi Kim,
I’m so glad that you discovered the prequel! I love that!
Yes middle school was a change for me, I ended up in a new school (dad was in the Navy) new state and a few military friends was a real challenge.
Hi Dorothy,
Wow, that is a lot on your plate for middle school! I hope it went well by the end!
Middle school was terrible for me – teasing, bullying, I was not popular, to say the least.
Hi Andie,
Middle school is such a terrible time for most of us too. I think schools are doing a better job these days to mitigate bullying and raise awareness of what to do when faced with bullying, thank goodness!
Oh geez, my daughter is right behind yours Mia! So it begins! Thanks for sharing in the Kid Lit Blog Hop. Happy to tweet about the giveaway – nuts to living in Canada! 😉
Hi Renee,
Thanks so much for sharing! Glad that we are both searching for the same kinds of books for our daughters! They will be easier to discover that way!
AHK! I just started middle school!
Hi Erik,
Good advice, I hope?!
This looks like a lot of fun, no where near reading middle grade books for Gigi yet but one to keep an eye on.
Hi Julie,
I’m passing this title along to my 7th grader … hope she wants to read it as part of her assignment to read 40 books during the school year from her English teacher who said the kids mouths fell open when she said that! Still, a good goal to keep in mind! And better than watching YouTube beauty videos which is what my daughter does in her spare time.
