We usually have a family dinner almost every night. Our pediatrician has told us over and over again about the importance of a daily family meal as one key way to keep your kids off drugs. It’s funny, isn’t it? It’s the little things that really matter.
What do you spy?
We have not, however, ever attempted a family game night. Out of my three kids, my youngest loves board games the most. He’s usually the one that makes me play games with him like Connect 4, Scrambled States (my personal favorite), checkers, Sleeping Queens, and Blockus.
He really likes I Spy games too. We used to read I Spy books, and even had an I Spy puzzle game.
Now that summer is coming and school is nearly over, family game night seems more feasible. My kids’ spring sports will have wound down and the music and foreign language lessons will be a distant memory having gone on summer hiatus. Let the games begin!
What about now? What do you spy?
It will be even easier to execute a family game night with this great promotion from KFC: when you buy a KFC 12 piece tender meal or larger with 2 large sides, 4 biscuits and 4 sauces, you get a free I Spy game! You can also get bonus I Spy posters.
Is this better? What do you spy?
I spy toys that kids use to play
a blue skateboard for a sunny day,
a green sail boat to sail away,
and a pink kazoo for a cabaret.
There are items for a day at the beach,
a starfish to hold,
a baseball to reach.
Blue sunglasses to keep the sun out,
A red button to knock about.
A red checker is hiding on the sand castle floor,
but a golden key will open the door.
I’m excited to start a new family game night at my house. A free I Spy game will be the perfect way to kick it off and not having to cook during a hot summer night is also a win for parents.
How about you? Do you have a family game night? What are your favorite games to play? Please share!
