BEST #OWNVOICES CHILDREN’S BOOKS: My Favorite Diversity Books for Kids Ages 1-12 is a book that I created to highlight books written by authors who share the same marginalized identity as the characters in their books.
A stuffed Holly Hobbie doll was the last doll I received for Christmas. She traveled with me to college in the 70s. I would be so excited to add this book to my collection of Christmas books!
I love Tomie dePalo’s The First Christmas (a pop-up book). I managed to get our copy signed when i met him at a book signing in 1991.
Hi Ramona,
You are so deserving to win!!! I hope you do but only Rafflecopter decides. Thanks for sharing The First Christmas too! I love Tomie De Paola but I haven’t read that one yet. Having a signed copy is so special! How wonderful you have one!
I always read “Twas the Night Before Christmas” just before bedtime.
Hi Barbara,
That is a lovely tradition that I’m sure your kids have fond memories of!
We’ll read the Night Before Christmas, and I’m adding to our list this year, so your recommendation looks like a lovely one!
Thanks so much Brittany,
The artwork is lovely in this book and gives this traditional poem a new spin! Thanks for entering!
I love Chistmas books! My 4yo has been reading Jan Brett’s The Snow Bears at school, and “Tonight You Are My Baby” has been popular at home this week 🙂
Hi MaryAnne,
I think I know very few Christmas books!!! Adding yours to my list to check out! Thank you for sharing!
We’ll read Father Christmas BC by Barry J. McDonald.
We love Christmas!
Hi Florry,
I’m adding that one to my list! Thank you! And thanks for entering!
We will read Dream Snow by Eric Carle
Hi Tomoko,
We loved Dream Snow too!!!! I love how the pages have clear ones with the snow. Love Eric Carle too!
We will be reading A Christmas Memory by Truman Capote.
Hi Mia J.,
I haven’t read Truman Capote’s Christmas book so I’m adding it to my list! Thanks for entering!
It has always been Night before christmas.. But they may not want that book anymore being they are getting older so hopefully if i win a book through the hop i can read them that one. Thanks
Hi Jodi,
I know what you mean about kids outgrowing favorite picture books! It’s harder on the parents (me!) I think! Thanks for entering!
Our favorite book is ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. The copy you’re offering is so very beautiful.
Hi Michelle,
It sounds like this book would find a happy home to land at your house. Thanks for entering and I hope you win! (But only Rafflecopter decides!).
Granddaughters enjoy reading about Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph, but the Story of the Night before Christmas is always a winner
Hi Dorothy,
Such lovely classics your granddaughters are reading! Thanks for entering!!!
This is definitely the classic Xmas book to read. In fact, this is still my all-time fave.
Hi Jeanette,
It is THE Christmas classic, isn’t it?!! I love that it still endures! And kids are enjoying poetry!
We have been reading Bear Stays Up for Christmas by Karma Wilson& Jane Chapman and The Twelve Days of Christmas illustrated by David Delamare every night!
Hi Stephanie,
What a lovely tradition! Those are such wonderful picture books! Thanks for entering!
Definitely “Twas the Night Before Christmas”.
Hi Piroska,
Us too! Thanks for entering! We also read some silly fun ones like Auntie Claus and Olive the Other Reindeer. I love these spins on the traditional Santa stories.
We have two – my favorite, The Night Before Christmas, illustrated by Gyo Fujikawa, and my kids’ favorite, a pop-up book of the Biblical Christmas story.
The Fujikawa book is a reprint of one I had growing up, but the illustrations in your choice here look lovely too!
Hi E.S.,
Those two books sound lovely. My kids LOVE pop ups! Pop Up books are just fascinating, aren’t they? I love Gyo Fujikawa too but I haven’t seen his version of The Night Before Christmas. Thank you so much for sharing and for entering!
Love this Giveaway! Hoping I win
-Reshama
Hi Reshama,
Me too! Love that we are all doing it together and getting our bookshelves cleaned out and great books into the hands of parents and kids! Thanks for entering my giveaway!!
I love to read A Christmas Carol with them 😀 (especially the ones that rhyme lol)
Hi Maegan,
A Christmas Carol sounds wonderful! Thanks so much for stopping by!!
We will be reading many different holiday books, making sure to have a variety of traditions and religious celebrations.
Hi Dawn,
It is wonderful to be able to celebrate many traditions and religious celebrations, even if they are not your own beliefs. My kids ask for Hannukah jam doughnuts which we once got from a special bakery through Capability:Mom. I will take them there at some point; those donuts are so good!!
“The Brightest Star” Christmas Story.
Hi Andie,
I don’t know that story. I’m going to look it up! Thanks so much for sharing and for entering!
Right now, my 17MO son asks me to read “Merry Christmas Maisy” to him a minimum of 4X a day!
Hi Lauren,
We loved Maisy! My husband discovered Maisy before our first was born. We owned every book by Lucy Cousins at one point! :). I can see why Merry Christmas Maisy would appeal to your son! How cute that he loves it so much and how wonderful that he is learning to love books and reading! (and how patient you are to read it at least 4 times a day!!)
I don’t have a specific book in mind, but the kids and I go weekly to get new ones to read from the library!
Hi Jenny,
How wonderful that you do a weekly library visit with your kids! I grew up that way too and I have fond memories of those weekly visits!!
I don’t have kids, but growing up I loved Eloise at Christmastime. I am a soon-to-be teacher hoping to win books for my future classroom!
Hi Elizabeth,
Eloise is wonderful! We love that series too! Thanks so much for entering!
