- Kids’ brains are more receptive to foreign language sounds the younger they are.
- Kids thinking that learning a new language is fun is inversely proportional to their age.
- Many TV shows, games and apps that teach foreign languages are geared for young kids, or adults but it’s much harder to find for tweens!
Little Pim has a new Amazon Store and these are on my holiday list:
My kids have been taking Spanish since they were young. We had a lovely grandmother who came to our house and treated them like her own grandkids. They adore her. But then we took a year off, and my 9-year-old son especially forgot every single word he ever learned. Like colors. He no longer knows any of them.
My middle child is taking Spanish in 6th grade but says it’s too easy. My 8th grader has decided to switch from Chinese to Spanish when she starts high school next year. Yes, we need this! My secret to get them to watch them? Long car rides! They are a captive audience!
While the Little Pim DVDs are geared for kids ages 6 and younger, a beginner is a beginner. I would use these for my kids who are 9, 11 and 13 because they need the vocabulary review and, while they might roll their eyes, they would secretly think it’s a cute video!

Hi Rae,
They are a lot of fun! I hope you can make it and you can stay as long or as short a time as you like. Just search by the hashtag and you’ll see all the tweets!
I have to work until 10 est! So disappointed because we have the first CD set courtesy of my SIL and my 3 year old is now obsessed with learning as much Spanish as possible! J also has a CD by little Pim with Spanish songs which is now being played nonstop in the car. It definitely is my current pick for \\\”Non-annoying kid\\\’s music.\\\” I hope everyone who does show up enjoys! I\\\’ll catch up on the hashtag when I am done with work!
Hi Meri,
How wonderful your kids want to learn Spanish!! I’ll keep you posted if there are other Little Pim Twitter parties. Maybe you can take a 10 minute break to pop in? You don’t need to stay the whole time. Just use the hash tag to find everyone.
There are so many twitter parties at 9pm ET, and that’s bedtime in my house! I’ll see if I can make it, though 🙂
Hi MaryAnne,
I know 6pm West Coast Time is a busy time!! Please do stop by if you are not too crazed with bedtime!
rsvp @nicholemckinnon Can’t wait to party! #SmartHoliday
Yay! Thanks for coming to the party tonight Nichole!!
This sounds great. I’m a language educator and mom with a passion for all things literacy and language (specifically French and ESL.) I often speak French with my four-year old and introduce words he’s interested in. We sing songs and play games that make it fun yet authentic. One of my favorite sites is the BBC Primary Languages (they feature Mandarin, French, and Spanish.)
I’ll try to pop in to the Twitter party!
Hi Erika,
