Arundel Publishing is holding its first creative writing competition for kids and asking that all contestants write a short story using at least one of your favorite characters from the chapter book Agent Colt Shore: Domino 29 by Axel Avian.
They are looking for action packed stories that refrain from excessive amounts of violence and are overall positive-just like Colt Shore. The length can be whatever you decide. Also, there are two age groups for submission so please specify your age: 10-12 and 13- up.
The winners will receive a $100 cash prize, along with the chance to get their story published!
Please submit all stories by July 30th 2013, to Karen.lee@arundelpublishing.com
Happy Writing!

Meet Axel Avian: 5 Qs and As
Do you want to meet author Axel Avian? Sure, why not, right??! Here’s 5 Quick Q and A’s with him!
1. Where did the idea first come from for Agent Colt Shore?
Probably back when I was at school. He’s always been there for me. Although whilst the gadgets got cooler and I got older, he remained essentially unchanged (except for his wardrobe).
2. What is your favorite writing environment? Is it also your most productive?
Outside, absolutely. And yes, that is where I am most productive.
3. How much is Colt based on you? Will any of his adventures mirror yours?
To a degree he is based on me. Like I said, Colt’s been with me since I was his age and before. But he was always cooler than me and better than me. In Colt I have the chance to do explore options I never took, never had the chance to take, or was just too afraid to take. Of course some of his adventures will be inspired by my own experiences, to the degree that I am legally aloud. What these are I cannot say.
4. Have you ever killed anyone?
5. You’ve admitted that you’ve worked for an organization like FALCON, in what way is being an author different? Are there ways in which they are 2 sides of the same coin?
Being an author is a lot less confidential. I cannot get into too much more detail for the same reason! The stakes are lower, being an author; I feel I only risk letting myself down… and Arundel. I suppose they could be two sides of the same coin, the mission objective broadly remains the same, just the execution and target audiences change.
Quick Book Review of Agent Colt Shore
Agent Colt Shore: Domino 29 by Axel Avian
Ignore the unappealing cover and the head scratching title of this chapter book. Instead, think about this: how does one train to be 007? You’d have to start as a kid, right? I mean, how else can you learn all the cool stuff that 007 knows? This is that book!
Young Colt Shore is a secret agent who studies and trains at school that develops 007 types. He comes from secret agent stock, though this is a big discovery for him in the book, and he gets called into action. Apparently, they need secret agent kids because sometimes adult agents are out of place. The domino reference is the number of events that seemed to fall on each other causing Colt to be in the predicament he’s in at the start of the book, trapped with a young pop star and a bevy of young girls in chandors who need rescuing.
Honestly, this is a riveting action adventure read that I highly recommend! [chapter book, ages 9 and up]

BEST #OWNVOICES CHILDREN’S BOOKS: My Favorite Diversity Books for Kids Ages 1-12 is a book that I created to highlight books written by authors who share the same marginalized identity as the characters in their books.
I have a 10yo nephew who writes awesome stories. I’ll pass this on to him!
Hi MaryAnne,
Thanks so much for passing it on to your nephew! I hope he enters. I love these summer contests that make creativity fun and incentivize kids to try something new. And honestly, that book Agent Colt Shore: Domino 29 is really good. I could not put it down!
Cool! Let’s see if I can get Fen to enter a writing competition, since she refuses all of the art contests I present her with…
Hi Jeanette,
It would be so amazing if someone’s kid won the competition! That book is a really fun read too! I hope Fen will do it! My oldest wants to do all the art competitions you post on … the irony, right?!
Thanks for sharing this Mia…I’m passing it on.
e-hugs
Elle
Thanks Elle! I hope someone enters it this summer. It looks fun!
How do you enter in the writing contest?
Hi Bindu George,
Email Karen.lee@arundelpublishing.com with your story. You have to use characters from Agent Colt Shore in your story.
