All three of my kids, ages 13, 11, and 8 delighted in this clever picture book with a book-within-a-book-within-a-book format. I figured if this picture book could captivate a teenager, it has a lock on all younger kids.
I only wish the pages were a tad more sturdy because this is a book that is going to be used. Little hands will want to open up each page by themselves to discover all the creatures who are enjoying reading a book.
PickyKidPix thinks that this picture book is equal parts wonderful due to both the talented illustrator and author! I tried to argue that it was more the illustrator that makes this book so great but she disagreed. She loves Suzy Lee’s wordless picture book Wave and noted that Suzy could illustrate in so many different styles!
There are so many subtle things to see within the book. Notice how the book covers match the animals reading them. We really liked that.
We also liked that the smallest creature had the biggest book and the biggest creature had the tiniest book too small for his hands to even open.
This is a delightful picture book that appeals to all ages. I can attest because all three of my kids loved this book.

It’s possible that this video is even more fun than reading the picture book but only because this is an amazing trailer!

Oh… We haven’t read this one yet. I keep reading about it and meaning to get it and then forgetting! Thank you for the reminder!
Hi Stacey,
My kids are captivated but it’s a very simple story so I think it would be great for younger kids … ages 4 and up.
This is the right book for me, I have teens and younger kids too. Am curious to see a book that will captivate both age groups.
Hi Viren,
Older kids love the concept and reading the book but it’s quite a simple story. It would be especially great for younger kids around ages 4 and up with, perhaps, an older kid reading to them.
Oh, how clever! I loved the video. The book must have cost a fortune to produce, However, the rather stylized art work is a disappointment for me.
Hi Barbara,
Sorry the artwork didn’t do it for you. Our particular copy had printing issues with the saturated color coming out streaky. We liked the illustrations though.
Clever concept, perfect execution. Nothing not to love about this gem!
Hi Cathy,
It does seem to be pleasing to most everyone!
This is a very neat book.
Thanks iGameMom,
My kids really, really liked it and they tend to be picky about picture books now that they are older.
Yes I saw this book, very cool! You know I didn’t even realize it was illustrated by Suzy Lee, yes very different style. Lovin’ picture book trailers lately!
Hi Ann,
I agree with you! Picture book trailers are getting better and better! I think it must be hard for an illustrator to have many different styles.
That is adorable! I loved lift the flap books as a child (still do) and this is magical. Love the illis too.
Hi Catherine,
I love lift the flap books too! I like how there are lots of subtle details for older kids to notice but the actual story is quite simple which should appeal to younger kids. Something for everyone!
thanks, i enjoyed this post. always great to discover a book that will hold the interest of a wider age range.
Thanks Belinda!
What a clever book, thank you for sharing!
Hi Sustainable Mum,
Thanks so much! It’s such a cute book. My kids are older but I can picture a preschooler or toddler really enjoying opening up the books as they get smaller and smaller!
