Kids Make Gift Ideas
My idea for kids making gifts for parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles is clove fruit — clove apples, clove oranges, clove clementines, clove kumquats, and clove lady apples. We tackled this craft project last year and found that it wasn’t too difficult though it takes longer than you’d think. This year we will try smaller fruit like lady apples and kumquats! Keep in mind too that you don’t have to cover the fruit entirely in cloves and it will still smell nice and look pretty.
I left our bowl of clove oranges, clementines and kumquats near the radiator and the fruit dried out nicely, gently perfuming the room for a month or so. I have more ideas for gifts kids can make on my Pinterest board of DIY ideas for kids like these below. Do you have a post on gifts kids can make? Please link up!

Neat idea! It’s nice and colorful having oranges around at Christmas. Makes a change from red and green.
Hi Catherine,
I love how the clove oranges smell too. Even making them, your hands get sticky but I don’t mind because I like the way it smells. Spicy and citrus-y. Very festive!
Can’t wait for my house to smell like oranges and cloves!
Hi Nancy,
Me too! I need to get cracking!
Love your blog and love this project! The smell of an orange pomander takes me back to my own childhood Christmases. What a fun thing to share with kids!
Hi Michele,
It is such an old fashioned thing to make, isn’t it? I remember making them when I was little (a long, long time ago!). Thanks so much for saying that! My kids had fun making them. It’s simple to make and fun to do together with some music blasting.
Why do I not have something to link up?! I will be back asap!
I remember making these with my mom : )
Adding cloves to the shopping list right now!
Hi Ann,
Link up your Christmas tree ornament post you just did. Those ornaments are lovely and perfect for kids to do themselves! I, on the other hand, got confused on how to make the cuts but my kids would be able to explain it to me. I’m just not that good at the crafts!
