Getting Kids to Read
I’m back from school vacation week and ready to resume my weekly features with a twist. They are now going to be weekly-ish. Yes, like the Ish! book by Peter Reynolds, a facsimile of the real thing because it turns out to be a frantic pace to be posting weekly. I’m assuming overwhelming for you, my readers too! 🙂 In the meantime, I am cooking up another idea for a blog on children’s literature so please stay tuned…
Thank you to everyone who sent in pictures! And please keep them coming! You can email them to me at pragmaticmom.com@gmail.com.

Robin sends in a picture of her 12-year-old son reading by candlelight…[which] warms the cockles of my heart…
and her daughter is caught reading classic old-fashioned fairy tales!

My dad friend Dan from my first job a million years ago sends in this picture of his son, reading happily at home (much like his well-read dad!).

Jill from MomsGoneGlobal (an excellent multi-cultural blog that I like a lot!) writes, “Hi! Today, the boys and I were at the library to stock up on reading material. They were super excited to find the dinosaur section so they grabbed a stack of books and planted themselves right in front of the shelves to pore over them. Of course, I thought of your “Caught in the Act” series and captured the moment. Thanks again for the inspiration! : )”

BEST #OWNVOICES CHILDREN’S BOOKS: My Favorite Diversity Books for Kids Ages 1-12 is a book that I created to highlight books written by authors who share the same marginalized identity as the characters in their books.
Love seeing kids reading!
This is my first time visiting your blog – I am big on education and getting into kidlit, so I will definitely be back!
To Brandon,
Thank you! Tomorrow, I will have kids reading to their pets after coming across some programs at libraries that use service dogs as non-judging audience members for kids who are reluctant to read aloud. I might do a series of these kinds of pics for a few weeks if they keep coming in. Love the concept and seeing kids with pets reading together!
Thank you for the kind words Mia! I cannot wait to see what your new Children’s literature blog idea is all about! Regarding your features, I must tell you that I am always amazed by the pace at which you publish such high quality and content-rich posts! You have created a truly outstanding, productive and useful blog!
Hi Jill,
Thank you so much for your kind words!
