Picture Book to Give Teacher Getting Married
Tomorrow my middle daughter’s teacher is getting married. My daughter has had this teacher for two years and she’s awesome! She invited the entire class to the ceremony and the kids are THRILLED! The Room Parents went crazy to come up with a meaningful present and created the cutest video of the kids in the class reading and answering questions related to marriage. How old do you think you need to be to get married? Who is a better cook, the bride or groom? How can you tell who you should marry? What will be different about your teacher after she gets married? The answers were hilarious and we watched our teacher crack up during the presentation of the gifts. We also had the class write something in this book and gave this to her. This was followed by “cocktails” in fancy plastic champagne glasses (sparkling cider and Orangina).
I love this book. It’s Lily from Lily’s Purple Plastic Purse fame only in this book her teacher is getting married and Lily wants to be the flower girl. Really, really wants to be the flower girl. Of course, Mr. Slinger has a niece all lined up for the job. Lily and her classmates get invited to the wedding and Lily begrudgingly agree to be the Flower Girl Assistant. The ending is funny so I won’t reveal it.
Lily’s Big Day by Kevin Henkes is the perfect book for any teacher getting married, particularly for a teacher in a younger grade such as preschool or elementary. And you don’t have to be a student in his or her class wishing to be the flower girl to give it!
